Hamilton Police have handed out over 200  traffic-related tickets during a two-week crackdown on racing, reckless and noisy drivers.

Called Project Dragstrip 8, the blitz was in response to complaints about cars modified for noise and speed that have been tearing up local streets.

The target area was Highway 8 from Centennial Pkwy. to Fifty Rd., however not limited to that area.

Division 20 officers have conducted enforcement and active patrols looking for these driving behaviours. One driver was traveling 116km/h in a marked 60 km/h zone.

Among the 233 Provincial Offence Notices handed out to drivers, police also nabbed drivers for the following driving offences.

  • 6 Part 3 Summons for more serious offences under the Highway Traffic Act
  • 1 stunt related 7 day vehicle seizure
  • 27 were for improper mufflers
  • 9 for unnecessary noise
  • Remaining for speeding and various other traffic related offences
  • 2 fail to remain incidents
  • 1 Impaired Operation of a motor vehicle

Hamilton Police say they will continue to enforce complaint concerns in this area, as well as others throughout the city. They also warn drivers to make sure that modifications to cars adhere to the Highway Traffic Act

Hamilton Police are committed to making our streets and neighbourhoods safer for all. If you are an individual who modifies your vehicle, please make sure you check with all Highway Traffic Act rules and regulations to ensure the modifications are legal. Do not render your vehicle unsafe to drive or disruptive to our peace. Slow down and respect our community.
