A 26-year-old Hamilton man has been arrested in connection to a failed robbery at an East Hamilton convenience store in July, Hamilton Police say.

On Wednesday afternoon (August 12), HPS closed down a portion of Catharine Street North to execute an arrest warrant in connection to the robbery case from July.

On July 13, 2020, shortly before 5:30 a.m., police was dispatched to Payless Convenience Store located at 146 Kenilworth Ave. N to reports of an attempted robbery.

The suspect reportedly told the clerk he had a gun and demanded money from the cash register. The suspect was last seen leaving the store on his e-bike.

Police appealed to the public for assistance in identifying the man wanted in connection to the failed robbery.

Police say they were able to identify him through investigative measures and police safely executed the arrest warrant at his Catharine Street residence this week.

The initial threat of a gun was an intimidation tactic and no gun actually existed, police say.

William Waite of Hamilton is charged with:

  • Robbery with Firearm
  • Disguise with intent

Anyone with information that may pertain to this case is asked to call Acting Detective Sergeant George Gallant at (905)546-2991 B.E.A.R unit.
