Hamilton Police said they will have an increased presence in the Bayfront and Westdale areas as they investigate a recent spate of sexual assaults.

On Thursday (July 2) shortly after 8:30 p.m., two women in separate incidents were sexually assaulted by an unknown man riding a bicycle.

One incident occurred near Longwood Road and the Waterfront Trail and the other near Churchill Park in Westdale.

During both incidents, the man approached the victims from behind while riding his bicycle slapped them on their bottom. He then carried on, not looking back at the victim.

A similar incident took place on Canada Day at Bayfront Park when a woman who was jogging in the area was similarly assaulted by a man on a bike.

The victims were not physically injured.

Detectives continue to investigate the incidents and have increased police presence in the area.

Hamilton Police are asking anyone who was in the area at the time to check their electronic devices for a male matching the description provided.

As parks are opening and Hamiltonians are taking advantage of the nice weather, Hamilton Police would like to remind citizens to enjoy their activities while keeping safety in mind. When possible, keep a charged cellphone on hand, stay in well-lit areas and be cognizant of the people around you.

  • Male
  • 20-30-years-of-age

  • Slim build
  • Dark collar-length hair
