Christopher Hicks of Hamilton cashed in a Lotto 6/49 second prize worth $94,461.70 in the June 17 draw.

The winning ticket was purchased at Royal Variety and Video on Whitney Avenue in Hamilton.

Christopher matched five numbers plus the bonus number to win the prize, according to OLG.

The married, 72-year old father of two and grandfather of five is a regular player and plays the same numbers every time.

“I played Lotto 6/49 in a group with a friend for many years, but he passed away three years ago. I have continued to play our numbers in his memory,” he shared, while at the OLG Prize Centre in Toronto to pick up his cheque.

The semi-retired commercial moving consultant discovered his win while sitting at his dining room table, using his tablet to check his numbers on OLG.ca.

“I asked my wife to double-check the prize, and she confirmed it was $94,000,” he recalled. “I said, ‘get your coat on, we’re going to the store.”

Christopher hasn’t made too many plans for his winnings yet.

“I have a great company car and we’ve decided to buy it when it’s off the lease. When COVID restrictions have been lifted, we’re going to bring my son and his family over from the UK. We will also share some of the prize with my other son.”

“We’re happy. For us, this is just the right amount of money to do us right in our retirement,” he concluded.

The OLG Prize Centre in Toronto has resumed in-person prize claims for winning-ticket holders of $50,000 or more by appointment only.
