A Hamilton man is celebrating a lucky windfall by honouring his late wife who he says is responsible for his lotto win.

Millipede, perform and zero were only some of the words that Rosario Febbraro of Hamilton revealed on his Instant Crossword Deluxe (Game #2170) ticket to win a $250,000 top prize.

Rosario, a retired general construction foreman, started playing Instant Crossword Deluxe last year while keeping his wife company in the hospital.

“I had stopped playing for a while and when my wife asked me why, I told her I wasn’t winning – and she told me I would. It’s been almost a year since she passed and sure enough, I won,” he said, while at the OLG Prize Centre in Toronto to pick up his cheque.

Rosario, 79, said he discovered his win over a cup of tea at home.

“I saw all these words coming together and had to pause to collect my thoughts,” he said.

“The last letter came up and I was surprised. I took the ticket to the store and saw that I had won $250,000!”

The father and grandfather plans to share his winnings with his family and will create a memorial for his late wife.

“She was a wonderful woman, loved by many and deeply missed. This win only happened because of her,” he said.
