Hamilton Police have charged a Flamborough man believed to be responsible for a late December hit and run that sent a cyclist to the hospital.

Police said Tuesday (Jan. 7) that a 37-year-old Flamborough man is scheduled to appear in court in early February after tips from the community assisted police in identifying his vehicle for a fail-to-remain collision.

On December 29, shortly before 8:00 a.m., Hamilton Police say they were called to the area of MacNab and Barton Street East where a collision between a cyclist and a white pick-up truck occurred.

The injured cyclist was transported to the hospital with serious injuries while the suspect vehicle fled, police allege.

A public appeal was issued which resulted in the Collision Reconstruction Office receiving several tips which led police to the suspect vehicle and the inevitable identification of the suspect driver.

On Monday, January 6, 2020, detectives arrested the suspect who faces several charges, which include:

  • Fail to remain
  • Mischief under $5000
  • Obstruct police

The suspect is scheduled to appear in court on Feb. 4 to answer to the charges.

The cyclist is expected to make a complete recovery.

Anyone with information about this incident is asked to contact the Collision Reconstruction Unit at 905-546-4755/4753.
