Hamilton man charged in connection to front porch parcel theft

A Hamilton man is facing charges after allegedly stealing a package from a resident’s front porch in North-Central Hamilton.

A Hamilton man is facing charges after allegedly stealing a package from a resident’s front porch in North-Central Hamilton.

On March 23, 2020, shortly after 5 p.m., police received a call for a theft in progress.

A citizen was sitting in their vehicle and observed a man stealing a package from a front porch on East Avenue North.

The suspect was then witnessed walking to the rear of a local business to provide privacy while opening the package.

When police arrived on scene, they located the suspect and discarded wrapping paper with the delivery address label still intact at the rear of the store.

In his possession were two bottles of multipurpose cleaning solution in a shopping bag.

Police confirmed with the East Avenue resident that it was their expected delivery and merchandise.

A 40-year-old Hamilton resident is facing the following charges:

  • Theft Under $5000
  • Possession Under $5000

Hamilton Police are reminding people to take precautions to secure online deliveries. Here are a few safety tips to consider:

  • Have an available package box or container on your porch to conceal delivery items
  • Install surveillance cameras at front door
  • Ask your neighbour to pick-up the package from your porch
  • Consider an alternate address
  • Request package to be held at a post office
  • Request package is signed upon delivery
