Hamilton man arrested in alleged ‘hate-motivated’ attack involving a knife

Hamilton Police say an arrest has been made in a “hate-motivated altercation” after a suspect allegedly threatened to kill a man with a knife while making derogatory remarks regarding the victim’s sexual orientation.
On Nov. 29, shortly after 9:30 p.m., police responded to the area of Barton St. E and Kenilworth Ave. N for reports of a person with a weapon.
Once on the scene, police located a male “in his 20s” who advised officers that he was inside a local business when a male verbally accosted him.
“The male made several derogatory statements to the victim referencing sexual orientation,” said Hamilton Police.
The suspect then allegedly chased the victim outside of the business with a knife while making death threats.
No injuries to the victim have been reported.

The suspect was located and he has been identified by police as Aaron Kerr, a 31-year-old Hamilton man.
“During the search of the suspect police discovered he was in possession of brass knuckles, an undisclosed amount of Fentanyl, pieces of identification that were not in his name and the knife believed to have been used in the incident,” said police.
Kerr is facing the following charges:
- Assault with a weapon
- Utter threats
- Possession of a prohibited weapon
- Possession of a weapon contrary to an order
- Possession of a controlled substance – Fentanyl
- Identity theft – Document
