Hamilton man accused of throwing lit cigarette into infant’s stroller

A 44-year-old Hamilton man is facing assault charges after allegedly throwing a lit cigarette into the stroller of a 10-month-old infant.

On Wednesday (Mar. 31), at approximately 12:32 p.m., police responded to the area of Barton and Wellington St. after reports of an assault.

Witnesses claim a man walked by a mother and, unprovoked, threw a lit cigarette into the stroller she was pushing.

The cigarette reportedly laned just below the child’s eye and suffered “minimal injuries.”

The suspect fled on foot but was caught by police shortly after, according to reports.

Dzemel Lubinovic is facing charges of Assault with a Weapon, Fail to Comply Probation (x3), and Disobey Court Order.

The victim and the accused are not known to one another, according to police.
