Hamilton Police say an 80-year-old local man is dead after being struck by car in the city’s downtown over the weekend.
Police say that on Saturday (Jan. 9) shortly after 6:00 p.m., the man was reportedly crossing without the right of way at a crosswalk at Main Street East and Tisdale Ave.
At that time, he was struck by a Hyundai sedan that was travelling eastbound on Main Street.
Emergency crews responded to the scene and the man was transported to the hospital but succumbed to his injuries early Sunday morning.
The driver, a 29-year-old Hamilton man, remained at the scene and continues to cooperate with investigators, according to police.

Police say that speed, impairment, and distraction have been ruled out in relation to the driver.
The Collision Reconstruction Unit has taken over the investigation.
