Hamilton Lodging House Owners Fined Thousands for Fire Code Violations

The owners of lodging house on the mountain have been fined after being convicted of six Ontario Fire Code violations and one count of failure to comply with an inspection order.

The City of Hamilton says the owners of a two-storey building at 35 Collier Cresent were fined $13,200 for the violations.

The violations included failing to provide:

  • a secondary exit
  • proper fire separations
  • exit signs
  • interconnected smoke alarm system

“Building owners must take responsibility to ensure their buildings are in compliance with the Ontario Fire Code and the Fire Protection & Prevention Act,” said Chief Fire Prevention Officer Peter DeBoer with the Hamilton Fire Department. “Failure to do so will result in prosecution”
