Hamilton Police charged the organizer of the “Defund the Police” event that took place Monday in front of Hamilton City Hall.

Police say “80-100” people gathered in the forecourt at around 12 p.m., which would exceed the numbers permitted for an outdoor gathering under an Ontario bylaw aimed at reducing the spread of COVID-19.

“The organizer was present and identified,” said police. “A 26-year-old female resident of Hamilton has been issued a Provincial Offences Act Summons.”

If convicted, the person charged could face a fine of $10,000.
