Fortinos employee tests positive for COVID-19 as Hamilton adds 13 new cases

A Fortinos employee tested positive on “a presumptive” test for COVID-19, according to Loblaws.

The Fortinos parent company says the last day the employee worked at the 1550 Upper James store was Oct. 23.

Meanwhile, Hamilton Public Health reported 13 new probable cases of COVID-19 compared to Wednesday.

Hamilton’s number of active cases is 161 (1,751 total). The city’s death toll due to COVID-19 is 48.

There are nine active outbreaks in Hamilton, including 18 cases — eight residents and 10 staff members — at Chartwell Willowgrove Long-Term Care residence in Ancaster as the number of cases connected to an outbreak at an unnamed basketball club is up by one to six.

Also on Wednesday, an outbreak was declared at St. Marguerite d’Youville Catholic Elementary School on the mountain after two students in the same cohort tested positive for COVID-19.

On Tuesday, the city’s worst COVID-19 outbreak at SpinCo Hamilton was finally declared over after 85 people contracted the virus.

Ontario is reporting 934 new cases of COVID-19 Thursday and 10 new deaths due to the coronavirus.

Health Minister Christine Elliott says 420 of the new cases are in Toronto, while 169 are in Peel Region, 95 are in York Region and 62 are in Ottawa.

The province is also reporting 99 new COVID-19 cases related to schools, including at least 55 among students.

Later today, the Ontario government is expected to release new COVID-19 projections.

Premier Doug Ford said Wednesday the modelling will show the number of new daily infections moving are”in the right direction.'”
