Emotions will undoubtedly run high tonight at Estadio Olímpico Félix Sánchez in the Dominican Republic.

The reigning Canadian Premier League champions, Forge FC Hamilton will play Haitian club, Arcahaie FC in the quarter-finals of the 2020 Concacaf League on Tuesday. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:50 p.m. eastern. The match will air live on TSN 2 and online at TSN.ca.

Not only can Forge FC guarantee its spot in the 2021 Champions League with a win, but they’ll also be looking to score a victory for veteran defender, David Edgar, who announced his retirement Monday (Nov. 30). Tuesday’s match will be his last.

“David is a true professional who has brought valuable leadership qualities to our young group at the club,” said Costa Smyrniotis, Forge FC’s Director of Football.

“We all look forward to our remaining Concacaf League matches this year, starting with tomorrow night, and when the season is complete, celebrating David’s outstanding playing career as it comes to a close. He has played an important role in our continued success here in Hamilton and will forever be part of the Forge FC family.”

From 2011 to 2018, Edgar, a Kitchener-native, made 42 senior international appearances for Canada Soccer’s Men’s National Team (37 starts) with five starts as team captain.

At the age of 14, Edgar joined Newcastle United’s Academy. He went head-to-head with the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo and Wayne Rooney while logging more than a decade in the English leagues with the likes of Newcastle United (2006-09), Burnley FC (2009-14), Swansea City (on loan 2009-10), Birmingham City (2014-15) and Sheffield United (2015-16). Edgar made over 220 appearances and posted 10 goals in England’s top divisions.

Forge FC, meanwhile, can become the first CPL team to reach the final four of the Concacaf League with a win over Arcahaie FC Tuesday.  The winner advances to the Concacaf League semifinals in January when they will play either Deportivo Saprissa (Costa Rica) or Club Deportivo Marathón (Honduras).

If Forge loses on Tuesday, it would still have a shot at qualifying for the Champions League thanks to the new “play-in” format introduced by Concacaf this year.
