According to the 2020 Canadian Farmers’ Almanac, the upcoming winter is going to be long and cold.

According to the 2020 Canadian Farmers’ Almanac, the upcoming winter is going to be long and cold.

“Our long-range forecast is calling for yet another freezing, frigid, and frosty winter for two-thirds of the country,” says Canadian Farmers’ Almanac editor Peter Geiger, Philom. “If you remember last winter’s freezing temperatures, you’re going to want to be prepared.”

The weather publisher states that many areas across Ontario can expect very cold conditions this winter.

“As the freezing air blows across the Great Lakes, intense bursts of heavy snow showers and squalls could, in extreme cases, deposit perhaps 70 cm in just a single day, especially in the snow belt of Ontario. The western third of the country will see near-normal (winter) temperatures,” the Farmers’ Almanac predicts.

The forecast also calls for above-normal winter precipitation for much of Canada, so much of the country can expect plenty of the white stuff.

According to Farmers’ Almanac, there will be an active storm track that will deliver frequent bouts of heavy precipitation, along with strong and gusty winds in January. From January 4 to 7 and 12 to 15, many areas may see copious amounts of snow, rain, sleet, and ice.

What about Spring 2020?

The Farmers’ Almanac says spring will be slow to start with winter lingering across Ontario. There will be occasional wet snow and unseasonably chilly conditions in March and April. There may be the threat of strong to severe weather, with some storms capable of spawning tornado activity for parts of Ontario.
