The Hamilton Police Service (HPS) has charged 38-year-old Keith Overholt with first-degree murder in the death of Andrew Ainscow.

Police made the announcement Friday, three days after Ainscow, 39, was found dead in the area of MacNab and Bold St. They believe the incident occurred at around 1:15 a.m.

Officers have also seized a knife, which they believe to be the murder weapon.

Overholt is expected to be arraigned when he appears in a Hamilton court on Nov. 19.

The first-degree murder charge is in addition to the alleged attempted murder of a 46-year-old female, which police say occurred on Nov. 9 at approximately 6:30 p.m. at the intersection of Queen and York St.

Police say they have found no connection to Overholt and the victims and believe the attacks were random.
