One popular Hamilton summer festival is pivoting big time to bring a little flavour of Greece to the community this weekend.

Hamilton’s Greek Fest would have been this weekend (August 14, 15 and 16), but due to COVID-19, organizers have decided to make some changes to keep people safe but still serve up the food Hamiltonians love.

This year, Greek Fest Express will be offering take out this Saturday and Sunday from 12 to 8 p.m.

“Since we can’t celebrate in the same way we have received the approval to go ahead and have a 2-day Food Take out only event,” organizers say on the event’s website.

“This year it’s ‘Hamilton Greek Fest Express… Take it and GO’ with the same delicious Greek food that everyone has become accustomed to.”

The fundraising event, organized by Panagia Greek Orthodox Church on the East Mountain has been attracting thousands of people to Inch Park for decades and is one of those summer events that Hamiltonians have come to rely on for an authentic taste of Greece and its culture.

Typically, Greek Fest weekend is filled with Greek dances, live music performances, local vendors, plenty of family-friendly activities and, of course, heaps of Greek eats.

This year’s menu will be much the same as years previous and will be available to order and take out from the tent set up on the Church property courtyard at the Corner of East 15th and Brucedale.

Greek Fest organizers say the volunteers preparing and serving the food this year are required to wear proper PPE and they ask that patrons do the same and respect physical distancing protocols when ordering and picking up food.

This year’s Greek Fest menu can be found on their website.
