Downtown Hamilton parkette to get facelift, deadline for public art submissions nears

The deadline for artists’ submissions for the Century Street Parkette Public Art Project is quickly approaching.

The City of Hamilton is looking to commission a permanent public artwork(s) to be located in the centre of the parkette which is bordered by Wentworth Street N, Wilson Street N, and Century Street (across from Cathedral high school).

“Artists will be selected by a citizen Jury through a two-stage process involving a concept and design proposal, followed by public consultation on selected Artists’ detailed proposals,” the City says on their website.

The deadline for submissions is Thursday, January 28 by 3 p.m.

The parkette is getting a facelift in the coming months, which will include the commissioned art piece, new seating, landscaping and solar lighting.

For the artist who wins the commission, the award includes is $120,000. Short-listed Artists completing a Stage 2 submissions will also receive a $1,200 honorarium.
