The delivery of 21,000 COVID-19 vaccine doses to Hamilton on Wednesday (May 19) has opened up more appointments for adults 18 years of age and older looking for their shot.

Earlier this week, many Hamiltonians were left disappointed or looking for vaccine appointments out of town when the age of eligibility dropped to 18+ on Tuesday and existing appointments were booked swiftly.

In a press release issued Wednesday, the City of Hamilton said that with the new shipment of doses, thousands of local appointments have become available and a pop-up vaccine clinic is planned for Victoria Day long weekend.

“We are pleased to announce that to date, we have administered approximately 256,887 doses of COVD-19 vaccine – with upwards of 50.2 per cent of Hamiltonians over the age of 18 receiving a vaccine to date,” the release said.

“Hamilton’s COVID-19 vaccination program’s goal is to have 75 per cent of Hamilton residents vaccinated on or before June 21.”

The mobile pop-up clinic has been organized at the West End Urgent Care Centre, at 690 Main St. W, and will run Saturday, Sunday and Monday and is by appointment only (walk-ins are not permitted).

To accommodate the pop-up vaccine clinic, the West End COVID-19 Assessment and Testing Centre will be closed from May 22 to 24.

The Moderna vaccine will be administered at this particular clinic and at time of booking, individuals must be 18 years of age or older.

Appointments can be booked through the Provincial online booking portal found at www.hamilton.ca/VaccineBooking or by calling the Provincial hotline at 1-888-999-6488.

“Available appointments are expected to fill quickly, more appointments will continue to become available as supply is received in Hamilton,” the release said.

“In time, all eligible and interested individuals will have the opportunity to book a COVID-19 vaccine appointment. Members of the community are encouraged to check back often for availability.”
