An outbreak of COVID-19 has been declared in a unit at Juravinski Hospital Cancer Centre (JHCC) after two staff members and a patient tested positive for the virus.

On Thursday (Dec. 3), Hamilton Health Sciences (HHS) sent out a release noting that the E3 unit at JHCC is currently closed to admissions due to the outbreak and visitors are not allowed in the unit, except under compassionate grounds.

The two staff members are at home isolating and the unit has been thoroughly cleaned and disinfected.

“All health care workers on E3, as well as any staff who may have spent prolonged periods of time on the unit, are currently being tested,” the release said.

“Additionally, HHS is working with Hamilton Public Health to identify and inform individuals who may be contacts.”

According to the release, staff working on the unit will not work anywhere else until the outbreak is declared over.

“Patient care continues to be provided safely,” the release said.
