An outbreak of COVID-19 has been declared at a Stoney Creek children’s clothing store after three staff members in the store’s warehouse tested positive for the virus.

Kushies Baby, located at 555 Barton St. in lower Stoney Creek, was listed among the other community outbreaks on the City’s COVID-19 information site as of Wednesday (Oct. 14) but it appears the outbreak was declared Tuesday.

An employee at the store told InTheHammer that the three warehouse employees who tested positive for the virus have been in self-isolation since last week and the area where they work has been thoroughly disinfected.

No shoppers would have come into contact with the workers, the employee said, and the store remains open.

This is the sixth active outbreak in the community at the moment and comes as local reports say the city’s biggest  outbreak at SpinCo Hamilton is up to nearly 70 cases.

As of Wednesday, there have been 1,436 cases of COVID-19 in the community since it was first reported here in March. That’s an increase of 29 cases in 24 hours.

Forty-seven people in Hamilton have died as a result of the virus as the number of cases considered resolved is up to 1,196.

According to the City’s data, it is believed that there are 193 active cases of the virus in the community at the moment.

To date, 92,835 COVID-19 tests have been completed at Hamilton’s Assessment Centres.

Meanwhile, Ontario is reporting 721 new COVID-19 cases Wednesday and no new deaths related to the novel coronavirus.

The province says another 783 cases are now considered resolved.

The latest figures bring the provincial total to 61,413 cases, which includes 3,017 deaths and 52,512 resolved cases.

The bulk of the new cases are among those under the age of 60.

Health Minister Christine Elliott says Wednesday’s new cases include 270 in Toronto, 170 in Peel Region and 79 in York Region.

She says the province has conducted more than 32,200 tests since its last daily report.
