COVID-19: Hamilton Public Health Services reports four more deaths since Friday

As of Monday (Nov. 30), Hamilton’s COVID-19-related death toll is up to 86 after four deaths have been reported since Friday.

Hamilton Public Health Services (PHS) confirmed that a man in his 80s who was a resident of Hamilton Continuing Care passed away on Friday, as did a woman in her mid-70s and a man in his early 60s, both not residents of a long-term care facility in Hamilton.

A fourth person, a woman in her early 80s who was a resident of Grace Villa, passed away on Sunday.

PHS is reporting the lowest number of newly confirmed cases of the virus since last Thursday, with 47 more cases since Sunday’s report of 61. The total for the community now stands at 3,158.

The number of resolved cases is up to 2,551 (approximately 81 per cent of all cases), and the data shows that there is believed to be 511 active cases in Hamilton right now.

There are currently 18 active outbreaks at workplaces, LTCs and community settings across the city.

According to data shared on the province of Ontario’s COVID-19 website, there are 28 confirmed cases among staff and students at 20 schools in both boards in Hamilton presently.

Hospitals in the city are currently treating 21 people with COVID-19.

In the past seven days, 3.7 per cent of COVID-19 tests carried out in Hamilton have had a positive result. To date, 133,012 COVID-19 tests have been completed at local assessment centres as an additional 25,122 were completed at other facilities.

Ontario reported 1,746 new cases of COVID-19 on Monday and eight new deaths due to the virus.

Health Minister Christine Elliott said 622 new cases were in Toronto, 390 cases in Peel Region and 217 in York Region.

This brings the provincial total to 116,492 cases with 98,639 resolved and 3,656 deaths.
