The City of Hamilton issued a clarification Wednesday after confusion surrounding the restrictions around recreation centres, arenas, and community halls as a result of the city entering the Red “Control” category of the province’s COVID-19 framework on Monday.

City recreation centres, arenas, and community halls are allowed a maximum of 10 patrons at one time, regardless of size, including coaches and players. This means there are no specific capacity limits for on-rink activity.

However, no spectators are permitted.

Additionally, hockey teams may train with drills only as no games or scrimmages of any size are allowed. Access to arena change rooms and facilities is also prohibited.

As for City pools, swimmers will have access to change rooms and facilities, however, “all Public Health measures apply and must be adhered to,” according to the City of Hamilton.

The City already announced the cancellation of all fall rec programs. All current gym, sport, and fitness drop-in programs, including pickleball, badminton, basketball, table tennis, open gym, and waterfit have also been cancelled.

They also announced that some drop-in recreation programs will continue, including open swim, length swim, and seniors general interest. Reservations are required for entry, the duration is limited to 90 minutes, and spectators are not allowed.

“Credits will be issued for registered programs and refunds will be issued by request,” according to the City.
