CF Limeridge Mall in Hamilton issued a memo to shoppers Monday (Dec. 14), stating it will be expanding its hours due to the additional shoppers anticipated from Toronto, Peel, and York—regions under COVID-19 lockdown restrictions.

“As we continue to navigate through the last few days before Christmas we appreciate everyone’s patience and understanding around the evolving restrictions at the centre,” said Liem Vu, my mall’s General Manager. “With the recent lockdown of Peel, Toronto and now York Region, we are extending our mall operating hours to help spread out traffic and allow more time for visitors to shop safely.”

The City of Hamilton reported 56 newly confirmed cases of COVID-19 and two more deaths associated with the virus on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, Ontario is reporting a new single-day record of 2,275 new cases and 20 new deaths. Health Minister Christine Elliott says 711 cases were in Toronto, 586 in Peel Region, 185 in Windsor-Essex, and 154 in York Region.

The death toll in Hamilton climbed to 121 after a woman in her 90s, who was a resident of St. Joseph’s Villa, passed away on Dec. 11 and a man in his 80s who was a resident of Shalom Village died on Sunday (Dec. 13), a spokesperson from Hamilton’s Public Health Services confirmed.

The total number of Hamilton cases is 4,368, with 3,431 (79 per cent) having been resolved. According to the City’s website, there are 779 active cases in the community.

There are 23 active outbreaks in the community at the moment, after one was declared at Immaculate Heart of Mary Elementary School in lower Stoney Creek when two staff members tested positive for the virus.
