“According to the City of Hamilton permit applications, the owner’s consulting engineer was to oversee the demolition process. It would be up to the consulting engineer to ensure the demolition took place in a safe manner. If there was any environmental concerns with regards to the demolition of these buildings, it would be up to the owner or consulting engineer to get any necessary approvals from the Ministry of Environment to address any concerns,” says Marie Fitzpatrick, the city’s communications officer for strategic partnerships.
