Arrest made in “random killing” of 79 year old Hamilton woman: Police

Police have made an arrest following the recent homicide of a senior resident in downtown Hamilton.
Police have made an arrest following the recent homicide of a senior resident in downtown Hamilton.
Around 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 16, 79 year old Gladys Little was found dead in her apartment at 187 Park Street South.
Family members attended Little’s residence to check on her well-being, and called 911 upon finding her. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
An arrest warrant was obtained for 26 year old Larissa Shingebis, who was suspected of the homicide.

Around 9:20 a.m. today (May 24), police received information from staff at a local shelter that Shingebis was staying there.
Officers located Shingebis at the shelter and arrested her without incident for first-degree murder.
Police say she will be formally charged with the murder on Monday morning, May 25.
“Investigators wish to acknowledge the assistance of the local media in disseminating Larissa Shingebis’ image and letting the community know of her wanted status in this random killing. Police also wish to thank the staff at the shelter for notifying of Shingebis’ whereabouts allowing her to be apprehended in short notice,” police said.
“Gladys Little’s family have been notified of the arrest which has provided them with some conciliation that their mother’s killer is no longer a threat to anyone else.”
Major Crime Unit detectives are continuing to investigate this incident.
