Arkells’ new video features Hamilton’s iconic Devil’s Punchbowl

The Arkells are always big on paying homage to their hometown — and the Hamilton rock band’s latest video works in one of the area’s greatest natural wonders.
Released Thursday afternoon on the Arkells’ YouTube channel, the video for “All Roads” includes dizzying drone shots through the Devil’s Punchbowl conservation area in the Stoney Creek area of Hamilton.
The video opens with Arkells frontman Max Kerman riding in a convertible through the conservation area singing the song, which seems to have a summer-jam, sing-along vibe. The camera makes a twisting pass through the 37-metres-deep Devil’s Punchbowl before it meets up with Kerman and the band on higher ground.
“It’s about finding your way home,” the band wrote on their Twitter page on Thursday. “ Home can be a place, a person or a thing. Something that brings comfort. In the words of George Harrison (of The Beatles), ‘If you don’t know where you’re going, any road will take you there.’ ”
The Juno Award-winning Arkells formed in Hamilton in 2006, taking their name from the street in West Hamilton where they lived and practised music. Their involvement with the city has included many community causes during the COVID-19 pandemic. They have run online music classes, and also sold limited-edition T-shirts to raise funds for online programming offered through the Downtown Hamilton YMCA, where Kerman is a member.

The Arkells have also been planning a major concert, dubbed The Rally, for Tim Hortons Field in Hamilton, with plans to donate a portion of each ticket sold to a charity trying to end houselessness. The latest date, after two COVID-19-related postponements, is June 25, 2022.
