$50K reward offered for information on murder of Hamilton father: Police

A cash reward is now being offered for information about the murder of a Hamilton father and husband who was fatally shot in the driveway of his Stoney Creek home more than a year ago.
Hamilton Police said in a press release issued Wednesday (June 16), that they are offering a $50,000 cash reward for information leading to the arrest and/or conviction of the people responsible for the murder of Giorgio Barresi on March 2, 2020.
On that day, police were called at approximately 10:45 p.m. to Portofino Place in lower Stoney Stoney Creek to reports of shots fired.
Once on scene, emergency service members located Barresi and despite medical efforts, he succumbed to his injuries.
Investigators have maintained from the beginning of the investigation that the shooting, which took place while Barresi’s wife and children were in the house, was targeted.

“The murder of Giorgio was planned,” Wednesday’s press release said.
“It is believed that the suspects were aware of his habits and routines which afforded the opportunity to confront Giorgio at his residence that night.”
Police said the suspects arrived on the night in question in a light-coloured sedan and parked at the end of Barresi’s street to wait for him to return home before a lone gunman approached and shot him.
The suspects then fled in the sedan to a nearby highway quickly fleeing the area before police arrived.
Surveillance footage of the suspect who approached Barresi, who was a popular realtor in the area at the time of his death, was shared by police several weeks after his murder.
“Investigators believe that the actions of these suspects indicate that there are people within our community who know what happened to Giorgio that night and the events that led up to his murder,” the release said.
“With Father’s Day approaching this weekend, Hamilton Police are encouraging those with information to come forward and help us solve this murder, especially for his children.”
