23-year-old accused of driving nearly 200 km/h through Hamilton

A 23-year-old driver is facing serious traffic charges after the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) tweeted Tuesday morning, accusing the driver of travelling 189 km/h on the QEW through Hamilton.

According to the Ontario Traffic Act, if convicted, drivers who go more than 50 km/h over the speed limit could face:
- immediate 7-day license suspension
- vehicle impounding
- 2-year license suspension
- 6 months in jail
- maximum fine of $2,000
- 100 per cent insurance increase
- up to 6 demerit point
