19-year-old arrested; fentanyl, heroin, and loaded gun seized after traffic stop: Hamilton Police

They said it happened Monday (March 16) shortly before 6:00 a.m. during “proactive stop sign enforcement” at the intersection of Caroline and Bold St. A 19-year-old man allegedly committed “a violation” and continued driving before stopping in a nearby parking lot. Hamilton Police said they approached before the occupants fled the Toyota Carolla sedan.

“The officer was able to engage the driver who resisted arrest,” according to the police.

“During the altercation, a loaded handgun that was in possession of the driver fell to the ground along with ammunition and cell phones. The driver was secured and additional officers responded for assistance.”

After a search, police said they found that the driver was in possession of illicit drugs, an undisclosed amount of Canadian currency and “other evidence to support the trafficking of drugs”.

The driver, a 19-year-old Hamilton man was taken into police custody and held for a bail hearing. He was scheduled to appear at the John Sopinka Courthouse Tuesday to answer to several criminal charges.

  • Fentanyl
  • Heroin
  • Canadian currency
  • Loaded Firearm
  • Ammunition
  • Cell phones

The 19-year-old Hamilton man has been charged with:

  • Several firearm-related offences
  • Possession for the purpose of trafficking – Cocaine
  • Possession for the purpose of trafficking – Heroin/Fentanyl
  • Possession of proceeds of crime under $5000
  • Several violations to court orders
  • Resist Arrest
