Bring on the holiday spirit.

This year the Oakville Santa Claus Parade is celebrating its 70th year.

The parade this year will run on Saturday, Nov. 17 with the theme “Celebrating 70 years!”

According to the town, the parade will make its way through downtown Oakville and Kerr Street Village, welcoming Santa to Oakville and marking the beginning of the holiday season.

The parade will start at 9 a.m. in Downtown Oakville at Lakeshore Rd. E. and Reynolds Ave.

From 7 to 11 a.m. on the day of the parade the following road closures will be in effect:

  • Lakeshore Rd. from Allan St. to Kerr St.
  • Kerr St. from Lakeshore Rd. to Stewart St.
  • Stewart St. from Kerr St. to Maurice Dr.
  • Felan Ave. from Stewart St. to Rebecca St.
  • Rebecca St. from Dorval Dr. to Forsythe St.
  • Robinson St. from Navy St. to Allan St.

Parking for the parade can be tight due to crowds and the road closures.

People are advised to get there early to park downtown or in Kerr Village in designated parking zones. People should be aware that parking restrictions will be in effect on some roads.

For those not wanting to worry about parking at all, take advantage of the free Santa Shuttle

More information about this can be found in the Santa Shuffle section of the parade website.

Children between the ages of five and 10 have the chance to win the Colour to Win Contest at the parade.

To enter this contest, people are encouraged to check the Oakville Santa Claus Parade website in October for the colouring contest photo. Once the photo is posted, colour the drawing, fill out the entry form, and return it to the town of Oakville.

The grand prize winner of the contest will be the Honourary Grand Marshall of the parade.

The second prize winner(s) will be qualified to ride on Santa’s float.

Children or relatives of the town of Oakville staff, or the Oakville Santa Claus Parade Committee, are not eligible to enter this contest.

Visit the parade website for more information about attending, joining, volunteering, or sponsoring the event.
