Just in time for summer’s last splash, Burlington’s aquatic fitness programming will return to Nelson Outdoor Pool next week, but some outdoor pool activities will be shutting down soon.

Beginning Sept. 8, aquatic fitness, leisure and lap swims will return which will be followed by the fall aquatic leadership program on Sept. 12.

Information for all fall aquatic programs can be found at burlington.ca/fall. All swimming programs require pre-registration, payment and health screening.

Residents wanting to sign-up for leisure or lap swims or aquatic fitness can register no more than 25 hours before the program begins. For example, if your desired time begins at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, you can register beginning at 9 a.m. on Monday.

Registration for aquatic leadership programs is also open now.

“Following the plans laid out in our Council-approved Recreation re-design plan, we’re offering more and more programs for people to join, re-connect socially and get back into the activities they enjoy with confidence in our safety precautions,” said Chris Glenn, Director of Recreation Services. “Extending Nelson Outdoor Pool to Oct. 11 will give people more opportunities to take advantage of outdoor swimming. As always, we have great instructors, great lifeguards and we’re very thorough with our COVID-19 prevention practices.”

Weather permitting, Nelson Outdoor Pool will remain open until Oct. 11 and spray pads will remain open until Oct. 12.

Meanwhile, LaSalle Pool and Mountainside Pool will close for the season as of Sept. 8.
