As the weather begins to warm up, residents should be aware of a potential risk of flooding in Halton and neighbouring areas.

As the weather begins to warm up, residents should be aware of a potential risk of flooding in Halton and neighbouring areas.

According to Environment Canada’s most recent weather forecast, higher temperatures are expected this week with a high of 8 degrees on Monday, combined with a chance of rain and snow all throughout the week.

The increase in warmth will “bring a thaw to southern and even northeastern Ontario, southern Quebec and much of Atlantic Canada during the first half of the week,” The Weather Network reports.

The network predicts that this warming trend will also raise the threat for flooding, especially in southern Ontario.

Colder weather is expected to return in the second half of the week.

Due to the threat of flooding, residents should exercise caution by staying a safe distance away from bodies of water such as lakes and rivers.

We’ll keep you posted with weather-related updates further into the week.
