VIDEO: Innocent Victim of Mass Mississauga Shooting Identified by Friends

The 17-year-old victim of a mass shooting in Mississauga has been identified by those who were close to him, and a video of the tragic shooting that claimed his life and injured several others is circulating on social media.
Peel police say they’re searching for at least seven suspects following a brazen shootout that killed a teen who has since been identified as Jonathan Davis, a Grade 12 student at Lincoln Alexander Secondary School in Malton.
Police said Davis was an innocent bystander.
Around 6:20 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 14, officers responded to reports of shots being fired at an apartment building on Darcel Avenue, which is located in the Goreway and Morning Star Drive area.
Police confirmed that the male victim who has since been identified as Davis was pronounced dead at the scene. Five other victims, including a 13-year-old girl, a 16-year-old boy, two 17-year-old boys, and a 50-year-old woman, were taken to hospital with non-life-threatening gunshot wounds and are all currently in stable condition.
“The suspects in this incident were dressed in dark clothing and concealed their identities using a balaclava and our preliminary investigation has revealed that the 17-year-old deceased victim was not the intended target in this incident nor were some of the injured,” police said in a statement.

Police say the investigation has also revealed that multiple suspects were involved and over 100 rounds were fired during the incident.
A large number of bullet casings were found at the complex, including some vehicles which were struck in the shooting. Police say it appears a music video was being filmed in the area before the shooting took place.
According to police, the suspects used semi-automatic weapons.

“This brazen act of violence will not be tolerated,” said interim Peel Regional Police Chief Chris McCord. “This incident appears to be a targeted attack and I’d like to reassure the community that their safety is the number one concern for me and for the men and women of Peel Regional Police.”
On a GoFundMe page created by Selma Alincy, who identifies herself as a close family friend of Jonathan Davis, Davis is described as a family-oriented teen who hoped to become an electrician.
“On September 14, 2019, my friend found her son’s lifeless body on the ground outside of her complex. This is something no parent should ever bear witness too. That day will forever remain in her memories. The senseless shooting that took place on Darcel Ave was devastating and many people got injured. Unfortunately, one died,” Alincy wrote.
Alincy says that Davis was the second of four children and a responsible big brother who often helped his mother look after his two younger sisters. She describes him as a homebody who loved to play video games and spend time with his father, who he often worked closely with.
Alincy said Davis was struck by a bullet when he attempted to flee the area as shots rang out.
The GoFundMe page is asking people to donate to cover Davis’ funeral expenses.
“I know many of you have expressed the urge to assist in any way possible and your requests have not gone unheard. At this time a financial contribution would be accepted and appreciated by the family, should you choose to assist. No parent ever thinks that they would have to bury their child, and this is something my friend will have to do,” Alincy wrote.
Mississauga Mayor Bonnie Crombie issued a statement on the shooting, calling it unacceptable.
“I‘m deeply shocked and saddened to hear of this senseless gun violence in our city, it’s unacceptable. I‘m committed to ensuring Mississauga remains one of the safest cities by helping to get illegal guns off our streets. My thoughts remain with the young victims and their families,” she said on Twitter.
Crombie is calling for the police station in Malton to be reopened and for increased funding to combat gang and gun-related violence.
“When I spoke to residents in Malton, they were visibly shaken and deeply upset. My thoughts are with the innocent young boy who passed and the victims who are still recovering. I’m advocating for increased funding for a police station in Malton and for our share of gun and gangs funding.”
Federal leaders are expected to address escalating gun violence in the coming days.
The shooting is classified as Peel’s 18th homicide in 2019.
The investigation is expected to take some time as police continue to appeal for witnesses, including several families who were at an ice cream truck in the complex’s parking lot when the incident occurred, as well as the ice cream truck’s driver.
