About four years ago the Canadian National Railway (CN) reaffirmed plans for a $250 million, 400-acre Milton Logistics Hub.

The CN is proposing to build a new truck – rail hub in Milton that will: develop 400 acres of a 1,200 acre lot of land with undisclosed plans for the remaining 800 acres, build a new mainline which will double the existing tracks and add over 20 kms of new rail yard track, result in 1,600 trips to and from the facility each day, and will operate 24 hours a day, seven days a week which has raised some concerns for Halton residents regarding traffic congestion, safety, noise, dust, lighting and environmental issues.

Although, the CN Milton website notes that this hub would help local businesses in Milton, and southern Ontario, get their goods to and from critical markets, help meet the growing demand for household goods across the GTHA, ease congestion on 400-series highways, and support climate goals.

According to the CN Milton website, the town was selected for this project due to its sufficient size, being close to highways, close to demand, and its optimal location (located in an area with minimal disturbances to environmental features). Other alternative locations were looked at, however, the proposed Milton location met the main requirements of this project.

The proposed location of this logistics hub is the land located east of Tremaine Road and south of Britannia Road.

However, back in February of 2018, inhalton published an article about the proposed project and how Halton was taking steps to fight it.

In this article, it was noted that the project was being assessed by a Canadian Environmental Assessment Agency Joint Review Panel Process.

And in a more recent inhalton article, it was noted that the Review Panel announced that a public hearing regarding the project, which will begin with a general session, will take place in Milton.

The hearing will start on June 19, 2019, and will take place over a one-month period.

All hearing sessions will take place at the Holiday Inn Express & Suites at 2750 High Point Drive in the town.

Now, according to a recent press release, the updated, and full, schedule of presentations that will take place throughout the hearing is now available.

As noted in the press release, the hearing is opening to anyone who wishes to observe, and the Review Panel will also be in attendance.

“The Review Panel established for the joint process for the review of the proposed Milton Logistics Hub Project will be present at each of the hearing sessions to listen to presentations and to ask questions,” reads the release. “The public hearing is designed to gather additional information on all topics related to the proposed construction and operation of a logistics hub, designed to transfer containers between trucks and railcars.”
