An underage teenager has been arrested for drunk driving after a concerned citizen phoned 911 in Burlington.

The incident was tweeted by Halton police around 11 p.m. Thursday.

Police say the young woman’s blood alcohol concentration (BAC) was more than twice the legal limit.

Impaired charges are likely being laid against the 18-year-old.

The BAC limit is 0.08 for fully licensed drivers but since the teen is under 21, it has to be 0.00 as a condition. The ‘Zero BAC law’ also applies to any new driver, regardless of age.

If you’re caught with a BAC above zero, your driver’s licence will be suspended on the spot for 24 hours.

If convicted, your driver’s licence will be suspended again for at least 30 days and you’ll fork over a fine ranging from $60 to $500.

If you’re a novice driver and have your licence suspended for drinking and driving, your licence could be cancelled, according to the Ministry of Transportation.

You’ll also have to retake all driving tests and repay all the fees.
