Travel can be expensive. So whether you’re a frequent flyer or you’re planning a trip soon, it’s true that many passengers try to keep their expenses to a minimum.

But that can be difficult, with the price of airline tickets and baggage check fees, getting your documents in order, planning your stay, and more.

Now, Canada’s two biggest airlines have raised their prices for bag checks.

Air Canada and WestJet Airlines have officially increased fees for passengers to check their bags, according to The Canadian Press.

The first checked piece of luggage will cost $30, up from $25.

The second checked piece of luggage will cost $50, up from $30.

Why so?

According to The Canadian Press, Air Canada and WestJet follow similar fee increases by major U.S. airline JetBlue Airways Corp.

Rising fuel prices also contribute to the jump.

It’s true that these airlines used to check bags for free. That was until 2014.

As for the increases that are now in effect, they apply for domestic flight bookings, and WestJet will have them in place for itnernational bookings starting Tuesday, for economy class.
