Big news for Halton Police.
At a recent board meeting, it was recommended that the Halton Regional Police Services Board approves the 2019 funding request of $155,383,287, according to the public agenda.
This would be a 3.5 per cent, or $5,312,477, increase from the 2018 budget.
Noteworthy drivers impacting the 2019 funding request consist of:
- Many businesses sourcing product domestically due to pandemic
- Amazon becoming popular shopping choice for Canadians this holiday season
- Burlington grant program will help 59 businesses
- Maintaining focus on front-line policing service levels and programs while reflecting emerging trends and continued growth in demand for policing services.
- The allowance for a contract settlement based on current trends plus continued growth in benefit costs.
- Focus on providing additional uniform officers to district investigative and patrol operations.
- Continued investment in the public safety LTE network and the associated annual operating costs.
In addition, it was also recommended that the board approves an increase in the authorized sworn strength of 14 positions, an increase in the authorized civilian strength of one position, the alteration of two part-time civilian positions to two full-time civilian positions, and the 10-year capital forecast as presented.
This funding request continues the strategic direction that was outlined in the 2017-2019 business plan.
Although the budget increase was approved during the meeting, the funding request still has to be approved by the Halton Regional Council.
