Teens Charged After Mercedes Stolen in Burlington

Two teens are facing charges after a luxury vehicle was stolen in Burlington.

The incident took place on June 26 after 11 p.m.

That’s when Halton police were called to investigate the theft of a Mercedes SUV on Ascot Place, near LaSalle Park.

Responding officers stopped a suspicious vehicle leaving the area and the stolen Mercedes was seen approaching but popped a U-turn and sped away.

The stopped vehicle, a 2006 Mazda 3 was stolen several days prior from Province St. N. in Hamilton, investigators allege.

The driver of the Mazda were arrested and held for bail.

A search of the vehicle resulted in the seizure of property that had allegedly been stolen from unlocked cars in Burlington.

Brent Andrew Cooper, 18, of Hamilton is charged with theft of motor vehicle; possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000; possession of a controlled substance (cocaine;) possession of a controlled substance (marijuana); and two counts of fail to comply with recognizance.

Cooper was released on bail and is scheduled to appear in Milton court on July 25.

The Mercedes was found on June 27 parked near Cannon St.and Kenilworth Ave. in Hamilton.

A male returned to the vehicle -with keys in hand –  at 3:45 p.m. and investigators, who received an assist from Hamilton Police, arrested the male after a foot chase.

A search of the Mercedes resulted in the recovery of more stolen property taken during vehicle break-ins and a garage break-in, say police.

Michael Raymond Allen, 18, Hamilton, is facing: two counts of theft of motor vehicle; four counts of possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000; three counts of theft under $5,000; break and enter; fraud under $5,000.

Police say they’re still investigating numerous other thefts from -and of- vehicles that have taken place throughout the city over the past several months.

Residents are reminded not to not leave valuables or spare keys in their vehicles and ensure the doors are locked when left unattended.

Police are also encouraging the public to immediately report suspicious activity.
