Teens Arrested After Thefts from Vehicles in Burlington

After at least 11 unlocked vehicles had items taken from them and one vehicle was stolen, Halton police have made some arrests.

After at least 11 unlocked vehicles had items taken from them and one vehicle was stolen, Halton police have made some arrests.

According to police, overnight on January 14-15, “numerous suspects” entered at least 11 unlocked vehicles in north Burlington and stole items from them. 

Police say that in one instance, the suspects located keys to a vehicle and then drove away with it.

The following streets were targeted:

  • Avalon Drive
  • Casselman Court
  • Chercover Court
  • Dryden Avenue
  • Kenneth Crescent
  • Minerva Way
  • Prescott Place
  • Roseville Court

“The stolen vehicle was then used by the suspects to commit similar crimes in Niagara Falls on January 16,” say police. “In this instance, the suspects were interrupted by a homeowner at 2:20 a.m. and responding police located and arrested one of the suspects.  They also recovered the stolen vehicle from Burlington along with another stolen vehicle from Hamilton.”

Three suspects have been identified.

On January 29 investigators arrested two suspects and obtained an arrest warrant for a third suspect.

Taylor Parnell, 18, of Hamilton, has been charged with theft of a motor vehicle; fraud under $5,000; six counts of theft under $5,000; and two counts of failure to comply with disposition.

Parnell was released on bail and will appear next in Milton court on February 28.

A 17-year-old male from Hamilton has been charged with theft of a motor vehicle; fraud under $5,000; six counts of theft under $5,000; two counts of failure to comply with disposition; and failure to comply with recognizance. He will appear next in court on February 6.

The third suspect, who also can’t be identified, is a 17-year-old male from Hamilton who is wanted for theft of a motor vehicle; fraud under $5,000; six counts of theft under $5,000; and two counts of failure to comply with disposition.

Police are reminding the public of the following prevention tips:

  • Ensure your unattended vehicle(s) are kept locked/secure
  • Never leave personal identification or valuables in your vehicle
  • Park in a well-lit and attended areas whenever possible
  • Never leave spare keys in your vehicle
  • If you have to leave valuables in your vehicle, lock them in your trunk.  Don’t tempt thieves by leaving packages or purses in plain view or on the seat.
  • Remove garage door openers, GPS navigation and cell phone devices & power cords from view when not in your vehicle
  • Consider installing CCTV / Surveillance cameras which can capture the crime and aid in suspect identification
  • Ensure their homes and garages are locked when absent from the home or turning in for the night. 
  • Report suspicious activity immediately
