The Halton Regional Police Service said Thursday (Jul 2) they made an arrest after asking for the public’s assistance regarding two “hate-motivated” graffiti incidents in Oakville.

The 16-year-old suspect was reportedly with three other people around the time of the incident on June 28, but police believe the suspect acted alone in writing what they called “anti-Black” graffiti in chalk on Skipton Lane.

“The Halton Regional Police would like to thank members of the community who came forward and provided CCTV footage,” said Halton Police.

The other graffiti incident occurred on June 23 and is still under investigation. Police received a call regarding “hate-motivated” graffiti spray-painted on the sidewalk of the intersection of Liptay Ave and Colonel William Parkway in Oakville.

The service said it would not be releasing details about what was written in graffiti “as doing so would further propagate the intended hateful message”.
