A 21-year-old Montreal man is being charged with attempted murder – as police continue searching for two more suspects – in connection with an Oakville shooting which critically injured a man.

It’s “unknown at this time” if the suspects and victim know each other, said Halton police Insp. John Mans.

Detectives say they believe the incident is targeted and there are no public safety concerns.

The shooting took place on Aug. 4 in a Cornwall Rd. shopping plaza at 9:30 a.m.

Emergency crews rushed to the scene, just east of Trafalgar Rd., where they found the 35-year-old victim in front of Sunset Grill.

The victim was in Sunset Grill before he was shot, a witness inside the restaurant told inhalton.com.

Three men wearing black had hoods and masks on, the witness said, and fought with the victim before shooting him as he tried to run.

There were no gunshots heard, according to the witness.

The victim was treated by Halton paramedics and transported to hospital.

One suspect who fled on foot was arrested near the scene. A vehicle linked to the shooting was also recovered, say police.

Marley Dorphelus appeared in court via video on Saturday and has been remanded in custody until he appears in Milton court on Tuesday.

Both suspects at large were last seen on foot.

The first suspect is described as male, black, with darker skin. He stands 6-feet, weighing 200 pounds, with a slim build. He was wearing dark, long pants and a dark shirt.

The second suspect is described as male, black, standing 5-foot-9 to 5-foot-10. His hair was in tight cornrows and he was possibly wearing white shorts, with an unknown colour/style of shirt.
