If you find yourself regularly purchasing tickets online, or are planning to buy tickets for upcoming events this summer, you may want to be careful.

Toronto Police have recently put out a warning regarding the issue of ticket fraud in the GTA.

Residents are warned to only go through official channels (rather than social media) when buying tickets for things such as tourist attractions, entertainment venues, special events, etc.

Discounted tickets, parking passes, and concessions purchased from individuals on social media are often fraudulently obtained tickets, police say.

Even if you are unaware that your ticket is fraudulent, police say you will still be held responsible for it — which can lead to refused admission or being removed from the scene of the event.

Residents are advised to buy their tickets on official, authorized websites, and avoid purchasing them on social media.

Anyone with information regarding the sale of fraudulent tickets is encouraged to call Toronto Police’s Financial Crimes Unit at 416-808-730.

You can also contact Crime Stoppers anonymously at 416-222-TIPS (8477), online at www.222tips.com, or text TOR and your message to CRIMES (274637).
