On Feb. 20, 2018, according to the Special Investigations Unit (SIU), an individual who worked as a custodian at a public school in the Town of Oakville could not be located.
The man started work at 7:00 p.m. but, by 9:30 p.m. another custodian at the school, could not locate him.
The custodian checked the school and the man’s vehicle, but still could not locate him.

The SIU said the custodian looking for the man first contacted her supervisor and then, sometime before midnight, the security company responsible for the school.
An employee of the security company went to the school and located a trail of blood in and around the victim’s vehicle.
The employee then contacted Halton Police.
At 12:36 a.m. on Feb. 21, 2018 an officer arrived at the school.
The report says the officers followed a trail of blood that led from the man’s pick-up truck, on the north parking lot, to a walkway on the south side of the school lot.
The blood trail stopped at a portable located on school property.
An officer found a box cutter type knife inside the man’s vehicle. There were several pools of blood, according to the SIU.
Additional police officers arrived and called out to the man at the portable.
It was confirmed by Halton Police that the man had a registered firearms licence.
An officer went to the man’s residence to check on the well-being of his family and to see if the victim was there.
According to the SIU, he was not present at the residence but had contacted his wife in a distressed and anxious state via phone calls and text messages.
The man, according to the SIU, reportedly told his wife that he loved her and that he was sorry for any grief he caused her.
The Tactical Response Unit, along with a K-9 unit, and a negotiator, were requested and responded.
The report says the man was seen, at times, through a window in the portable with a cut on his neck. Noises coming from inside the portable led police officers to believe that he had barricaded himself inside.
At 2:15 a.m., the TRU was able to get inside the portable, where they found the man lying on the floor, unconscious but breathing.
The man reportedly had a cut on his neck and his right wrist. He was transported to the hospital and pronounced dead at 6:00 p.m. on Feb. 21, 2018.
The Director of the SIU, Tony Loparco, has now recently (Jan. 22, 2019) said that criminal charges will not be laid in relation to the death of the man.
