A 37-year-old Brampton man is dead and two people are in hospital following a head-on crash along the Halton Hills-Wellington County border Saturday morning.

“If it’s appropriate that charges are laid, then we will lay them,” said OPP Const. Joshua Cunningham.

“We’re still investigating it.”

Emergency crews were sent to the 32 Side Road and 5th Line area at 7:30 a.m., on the Halton/Erin Townline.

That’s where a Kia SUV and Dodge minivan collided.

The Kia driver was pronounced dead at the scene.

His wife, also 37, of Brampton, is in a local hospital.

“She sustained serious but not life-threatening injuries,” said Cunningham.

The minivan driver, a 19-year-old man, is in a trauma centre.

“He has life-threatening injuries,” Cunningham said.

Speed may have been a factor in the collision — it’s a 70 km/h zone with very narrow shoulders.

“It’s at the crest of a small hill,” said Cunningham, adding “we’re still treating it as an avoidable collision.”

Technical collision investigators are on scene and 32 Side Road is closed between 4th and 5th line.

“That stretch of road will be closed while police investigate the crash site,” said Cunningham.

“It could be ‘til dusk tonight.”

Halton police were on scene to assist OPP with their investigation but left before noon.

Drivers are asked to avoid the area.
