Halton Regional Police officers arrested four individuals after a cluster of high-end vehicle thefts last week in Oakville.

Between September 17 and 23, the Halton police received ten reports of newer-model Lexus and Toyota SUVs being stolen during overnight hours from residential driveways in north Oakville.

The police implemented an action plan which included crime prevention messaging, increased uniformed patrols, augmented investigative support, exhaustive canvassing, and collaboration with other jurisdictions to identify and apprehend the persons responsible for these crimes.

During the early morning hours of September 24, police officers were conducting proactive patrols in a residential neighbourhood that had already been heavily targeted by these car thieves.

During this time, patrol officers stopped a vehicle near the intersection of Postridge Drive and Dundas Street in Oakville.

While speaking with the occupants of the vehicle, the officers formed reasonable grounds to arrest all four occupants for possession of break and enter tools.

During the search of the vehicle, officers located several Lexus key fobs, an on-board diagnostics device, screwdrivers, gloves, and flashlights.

Officers also located personal identification of a victim who had his SUV stolen on September 16. A significant sum of Canadian money was also found on the person of one of the individuals.

The following suspects were placed under arrest and charged with the following offences:

Jordy Charles (23) of Montreal, Quebec:

  • Possession of Property Obtained by Crime
  • Possession of Break-in Instruments

Abdel Balo (18) of Montreal, Quebec:

  • Possession of Property Obtained by Crime
  • Possession of Break-in Instruments

Shainna Faustin (26) of Montreal, Quebec:

  • Possession of Property Obtained by Crime
  • Possession of Break-in Instruments
  • Possession of a Controlled Substance (small amount of MDMA)
  • Breach of Probation (4 counts)

Victor Kazibwe (20) of Longueuil, Quebec:

  • Possession of Property Obtained by Crime
  • Possession of Break-in Instruments
  • Possession of Proceeds of Crime
  • Fail to Comply with Recognizance

All four individuals were held in custody pending a bail hearing.
