The province recently announced plans to invest $6,479,200 to create up to 52 new hospital beds in Halton Region.

The new beds have been designated for Milton District Hospital and Oakville Trafalgar Memorial Hospital.

The funding is part of the Government of Ontario’s investment of $116.5 million to create up to 766 more beds at 32 hospitals and alternate health facilities across the province.

“I would like to take this opportunity to thank our frontline healthcare providers for their heroic work to keep our community healthy and well,” said MPP Parm Gill in a statement.

“Our investment of over $6 million for up to 52 new hospital beds will help Halton Healthcare, including the Milton District Hospital, continue to care for patients in need, while also enhancing access to care in our community.”

The beds announced today are in addition to the $234.5 million investment for 139 critical care beds and up to 1,349 hospital beds included in Ontario’s fall preparedness plan.

“Our team of dedicated health care professionals have been working tirelessly at our three hospitals during these unprecedented times. In addition to managing the impact of COVID-19 on our hospitals, we are also preparing for the annual flu season and anticipated winter surge. Capacity issues remain a challenge for hospitals across the province,” said Denise Hardenne, President & CEO, Halton Healthcare, in a statement.

“These additional beds, designated for Milton District Hospital and Oakville Trafalgar Memorial Hospital, will help to alleviate the pressures associated with COVID-19 and the annual flu and benefit our entire Halton Healthcare hospital system.”
