The Downtown Oakville Business Improvement Area (BIA) announced on Instagram Tuesday (Apr 28) night that the summer events program has been cancelled for 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
“This decision was made with the health and safety of our #community in mind and a commitment to align our practices with the guidelines set by the government and public health officials,” wrote @oakvilledowntown. “These events include Summertime Series (movies in the square, outdoor yoga), TD Songs of Summer Series, and Midnight Madness.”
Instead, starting May 6, events will take place virtually through a weekly Instagram Live Series hosted by different Downtown Oakville BIA businesses. Viewers will have the opportunity to support local businesses by purchasing products, participating in fitness classes, and taking part in workshops.
“Although we are not able to come together as a community in person, we can still come together online”, added the BIA on Instagram.
The organization also announced that for the first time in 46 years, it will be hosting a Cyber Sidewalk Sale from May 28-31 where people will be able to shop locally online. Details are to be announced at a later date.
