Oakville native Stansbury named one of Atlanta’s ‘Most Admired CEOs’

Oakville native Todd Stansbury has been named one of the Atlanta Business Chronicle’s 2021 Most Admired CEO’s.
The Georgia Tech director of athletics is one of 39 Atlanta-area CEOs to receive the prestigious award and only one of two executives recognized in sports and entertainment category.
Despite dealing with the COVID-19 pandemic, Stansbury, who is in his fifth year as director of athletics, has led the Yellow Jackets to one of their most successful athletic years in school history.
Georgia Tech had 11 of 17 teams play in NCAA postseason play this year, up from three in 2017-18, and 19 student-athletes have earned a total of 26 all-American honours, up from nine in 2017-18.
Student-athletes have also excelled academically under Stansbury. During the 2020 spring semester, Georgia Tech enjoyed six-straight semesters of a 3.0 mean grade point average or higher.
Last fall, the school matched an all-time high with an 89 per cent NCAA Graduation Success Rate. They were also the only conference from a Power Five conference with a multiyear NCAA Academic Progress Rate higher than the national average in each of its sports.

Stansbury came to Georgia Tech as a football student-athlete in 1980 and graduated with a bachelor’s degree four years later in industrial engineering.
After a stint in the Canadian Football League, he returned to Atlanta to work in the banking industry before heading back to Georgia Tech in 1988 as an academic advisor for the Yellow Jackets’ football program.
He would be promoted to assistant athletics director for academics in 1991, a role he held until 1995.
Stansbury and other recipients will be recognized during the 2021 Atlanta Business Chronicle Most Admired CEO Awards dinner on Aug. 19.
To be considered for the award, an individual has to be an established leader with a strong recognition in their field, outstanding financial performance, a commitment to quality and have a strong vision.
