Oakville MP Anita Anand may be busy procuring vaccines for Canada, but the work the Halton Region Health Department has been doing through the pandemic hasn’t gone unnoticed by her.

In an interview with inhalton.com, the Minister of Public Services and Procurement had high praise for the job local healthcare officials have been doing battling COVID-19.

From doctors and nurses on the frontlines, to setting up and running mass vaccination sites and now a 24-hour vaccination clinic at Shoppers Drug Mart on Third Line, she’s proud of the efforts being made at home.

“I can’t say enough positive things about the Halton Region and the excellent work that Dr. Hamidah Meghani (Halton Medical Officer of Health and Commissioner) and her team are doing across this region,” Anand said. “I am constantly amazed at the efficacy and efficiency with which they do their job.

“Layered on top of that, our local pharmacies stepping up to the plate right across the Halton Region to support the members of this community.”

Anand said she’s also encouraged to see more and more people getting vaccinated here at home. Almost 160,000 doses have already been administered in Halton region.

“The percentages are increasing and we are going to see millions of doses coming into Canada over the next few weeks,” the Oakville MP said. “For example, Pfizer is going to be shipping 2 million vaccines per week in the month of May and 2.5 million vaccines per week to Canada in the month of June.

“We are going to see shipments of Moderna and Johnson and Johnson supplementing the already large shipment of Pfizer.”

Anand is grateful for the support she has received back home and for the efforts she’s making on behalf of all Canadians to procure vaccines.

“I am constantly inspired by the work of the frontline workers and the essential workers in this riding, whether it is at the hospital, or public transit, or stores,” she said. “We have so much to be grateful here.”
